Which is better? The Veenai or the Sitar? The Naadhaswaram or the Saxophone? The "Puzhaanguzhal" or its western equivalent - the flute? A lot of other similar questions can be asked...
I know the answer to the first question. It's the Veenai, in my opinion the best.

I'm Vijay who started this topic, I just want to say that the question is basically this - how do you think our Tamil instruments compare with their western or North Indian counterparts?

Okay Haris, the pullaanguzhal is the Indian flute, but the point is how does it compare with the Irish flute? The Irish flute was used by A.R.Rahman in "Yenna vilai azhagae?" in "Kaadhalar Dhinam" (it's the instrument in which the music at the start of the song is played) and in one of the pieces of background music in the film "Mudhalvan". I'll send you a sound sample of the Mudhalvan background music if you want.

you are being stupid - every instrument has its own charm. So consider better ways of venting out your frustration and better ways of wasting your time.
