Is it really necessary that one should be more presentable than his/her music to be a "great". Take a look at these yanni, anumalik(remember eyes) and ARR. May IR and MSV were not "great" because they cared more about there music than their looks. May be should have had a reggae or a pony-tailed hair to become world greats.

if one feels that his work will speak for him (or in this context "give his look") then he will not be bothered about what he says and looks. but that is not say that those who look not so good are great ones. in the same vein, there are some people who are good and want to appear good also. for example, mgr was very particular that he is not seen in not so favourable attire or looks. contrast this with rajini who despite his mass appeal does not care for what he says or how he looks. it is individual's perception.
it also helps (sometimes hinders too) to have a good appearance.
i think i have crossed the road twice and came out in the middle at last.
