As a sojourner, I am reminded of my Murugesan street days now. Murugesan St was in my way back home from office, Maestro's house is at the east end of the street, being the very first house at that end of the street. The street is well maintained and looks clean all the time. The pathway on either sides of the street is fenced with 3 foot grill that carries the metal plate with letters "Maestro Ilayaraaja" every 5 meters or so. The very thought that I was moving in the midst of a "grand happening", would send me to
ecstasy. Fenced crotons could be seen lining the grill. The green, clean look fades as you move to the west end of the street, and the regular looks of a street in Madras prod around.I used to make it a routine to drive back home in that street so as to get a glimpse of Maestro's house (or may be the Maestro himself! Real chapalams!!).
The unassuming bungalow painted in white wears a
very different look. If you think the building
would be trimmed ostentatiously, you may be surprised. The building to me looks like some miniature planetarium and the Maestro loves lots of green looks, i suppose. Well grown shrubs and garden come in your way when you try to have a glimpse of the facade. There is one 2 foot pillaiyaar sitting on top of the facade,
and oh! he sits in the thick of rain and sun!!
There is no canopy that usually comes along as a
package for our Gods!! This would irk me a lot as I would feel like barging in and asking the
Maestro about the philosophy behind his act of sun-tanning the already dark Pillaiyaar.I am sure the Maestro has a reason.
Every "Navaraathri" season would be a "Thiruvizha come home" at the Maestro's place. The whole of the facade, right from the wall to our pillaiyaar, would be lit with color electric bulbs, and "Vaazhai Marams" at the entrance.
I came to know that, through the nine days of Navaraathiri the Maestro invites pandits and vidwans for an ensemble and recitation of veda,rendering of kirthanas etc., takes place.
Eventhough its been my desire to get in touch with the Maestro, I am always reminded of the saying "Dhoorathu patchai kannukku azhagu", and hence, I hold back. I did have opportunities, contacts
that did really promise me of taking me to "the edge", so to say, yet, I said no to myself. However, I look forward to the day when
I can really talk to the Maestro, may be, not in words, but in silence!!

Mr. Massimo: I have sent you an emal. You can add a Plot No. 38 to the address given by Gopal. I too have been on Murugesan Street just to see the Raja himself. While, I have met with him a couple of times, I find the Pachchai saying a bit restrictive. Raja is even more green and great when you just approach him. Nowadays he has several assistants who just don't even allow you to watch him do his recordings. Several years back, you could go to Prasad studios and all of his assistants were real humble and would allow you inside. Even Narasimhan would be available for a chat. But, our Dr. now needs more concentration or perhaps don't want others stealing his tunes!

Hello Friends,

What you all had told previously is absolutely correct. He resides at No. 38 Murugesan Road, T.Nagar (off North Usman Road from West) and (off Ragaviah Road from East). Chennai - 17. His Phone No. is 828 3030. But I fear wheather fans, or fans is not that word to simply describe the craze on this Meastro will be in a position to speak to him or I think we would be searching for words if suppose we get that opportunity.

A few years back, in 1995 my father was admitted in a hospital which is situated very nearby to IR's house. At that time there was a very easy identity to IR's house. A medium size idol of Lord Vinayaka used to be there in the Terrace wall facing the street but now it is not present. Also in 1995 till 1996 there used to be frequent visitors to his house but now i think he is keeping distant from everybody.

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter from Delhi. My name is Sundaram Mahadevan and I am employed in a pricate company. Basically I am from Kerala and migrated to Delhhi in the year 1995. Prviously I was working with a company in Tvm and due to some problem, the company has locked out and after I migrated to Delhi with my family.

I have to kids one son and one daughter. I have an age old mohter with poor eye vision and my father has expired four months back. Also I have one elder brother and two sisters and my elder brother is an heart patient.

I have take care of my family and my brother's and because of this I find it very difficult to meet both ends.

Basically I am a singer and I am really interested to improve my voice and the only opening to expose my voice to the public is through media like TV and other source. I personally know that you are great music director and I seek your advise and also give me a chance to have a meeting with your goodself.

I am requesting this only to help my family to overcome the situation, which I am facing.
