I remember Alka Yagnik giving an interview quite some time back. In it she said something like she prefers to sing all the songs there is for a particular character in a movie. Apparently, it helps her to understand and get involved in the character better. Previously in TFM, few singers were used in each movies. Now there have been many singers introduced. I think it is an advantage cos some singers can only sing some types of songs well. But sometimes the different voices used are irritating (of course, it could be a wrong choice made by the MD).
So, which do you think is better, using the same singer for a character or multiple singers?

The logic expressed by alka is just a cover to conceal her demand of singing all the songs in a movie. The reason is:
Generally singers like alka will sing for (or) will be asked to sing for heroines. So singing all the songs for a particular character equates to singing in almost all the songs in the movie, assuming that all the songs will have some heroine part in it.
Now that in a particular song the character will be expressing only one mood say sad/romance. So one need not have to sing all the songs so that to understand and get involved in the character. Alka is not going to dub the voice of the character, she has to only sing a song. So if a singer is true to his/her song raising above just money consideration then definitely one can do justice to the song one sings by pouring all kind of emotions needed for even a single song.
So its not bad to use more than one singers for a particular character in a film as long as it doesn't "irritate (as expressed by sav)" the listeners.
