  All you guys out there seem to be complaining that there are no good thathuva paadalgal nowadays ... which is not exactly true.
  I remember the song "Naanager Naanillei Thaayeh" by Ilayaraja. If you attempt to translate this three-word phrase into English, it will need 14 words!
  "I am what I am and that is not because of me, my mother." Simply wonderful isn't it?
  Another wonderful song is Idhayam Oru Koyil also by IR. Part of the lyrics goes:
  Neeyum naanum pohvathu, vaazhkai yennum paathaiyil
  Seirum neram vanthathu, meethi thooram paathiyil
  Unathu paathai vehru yennathu paathai vehruthaan!
  Superb lines are they not?

  "Oru veetukku veetukku vasapadi venum" from Kizhakku vasal is a kind of philosophical song which explains how one should lead his life.
  
  The song
  "alolam padi asainthadum katre" in Avarampoo explains an orphan's feelings. The song is full of pathos and simply makes you think of those people who are stranded without family and friends.

  Kali perungaya dappa is from a Rajini movie, Panakkaran.
  How about the lyrics of the song Vaazhvey Maayam, especially the ending:
  Pirandhalum paalai ootuvar ingey;
  Irandhalum paalai ootruvar!
  Undaavadhu rendaaledhan, oorpovadhu naalaledhan.
  Karuvodo vandhadhu, theruvodu povadhu

  The song mentioned by cp was not only composed and sung by IR, but he wrote the lyrics as well.

  There was one instance when recording 'paadu nilavae for urimai geedham, IR changed the lyrics 'paadu nilavae' to 'padum nilavae' (implying that Nila is in 'padum' mode already) in the second stanza.
