Hello srini, the song from Villupattukkaran- Ponnil vaanam' is actually set in KARNATAKA KHAMAS. Actually a lot of rare ragas were used by IR in so many songs.If u r not averse to patient reading of following I'll furnish a few numbers of IR's venture into a new domain of rare raga world.
1.Sindhiya venmani sippiyil muthachu - Vijaykanth film ?Periya veettupannaikaran- SHROTHSAVANI
2.Chinna chinna rathiname- Karthik film- SAINTHAVI
3.Dhevadhai vandhal- Samudhrapriya

Whats the raga of "Kanden Kanden" from the recent Film Madurey..
This song again is a melodius and very similar to Kaathal vanthathum ... from Povellam un Vasam.
Thought its Vrindavana saranga...do you use G2/3 both in Vrindavana saranga?

Sounds like it, but does this not use both M2 and M1? Also watch out for the strange chromatic kinda usage....involving D1 in charanams...Time being i'll prefer to cal it just kalyni :-(
Yaar veettu roja poo poothatho - Kalyani - I think this is yaman kalyani. Correct me if i am wrong.
Koottathile Koil pura- is ABOGI/Sriranjani combo -[Somewhere it was written Bahudari]....Tough one, i thought it should be (karnataka khamas)
Naan padum paadal- Ranjani....i think Karnaranjani

Rajadhi raja - shanmugapriya - I agree that the pallavi uses M1 (not to mention the preludes/interludes that have deviations)..But see the words "kanirandile enna mayakkam", which uses the N2 'R2 G2 phrase, typical in all shanmugapriya songs. Moreover, the charanams are water tight in following shanmugapriya scale. May be a freaky use (like the western classical styling of the raga in the first piece of NOTHING BUT WIND)
Thogai ila mayil - Tharalam - illaye...There is a usage of M2 (albeit trace) in the song. Lathangi should be a fine description.
Ellorodaya vaazhkaiyilum - I went by the feel of the raga. As u rightly guess, i havent tried playing the entire song. May be it warrants a second look.

Has RAJA used sree ragam upto date in any of his songs....How about Nila Kayudhu Neram Nalla Neram....Also Pudhidhai ketkum putham pudhu (raman abdulla)...Any help would be appreciated.

I know that Sri Raagam is similar to Madhyamavathi raagam. Sri differs from Madhyamavathi in the avarohanam, with space for Da2 and Ga2. Note that in SriRaagam, the Ri is generally rendered plainly, whereas in Madhyamavathi, the Ri is generally oscillated (given gamakam)-- courtesy RoyalCarpet Karnatik site. I can't say for sure that IR has given any songs in SriRaagam. 'Kai Veesammaa Kai Veesu' from Engitte Modhaathe may be based on this raaga; I couldn't say for certain.
A good reference for SriRaagam IMO is this one Malayalam song 'Paadi Thodiyiletho' from the movie Aaraam Thamburan.

Is the song 'Idhazhil kadhai ezhuthum' from 'unnal mudiyum thambi based on lalitha??

purv its ok.
I haveno other option too as i have not heard much of many of those songs (other languages) that you & Nikhil had given. Anyways, the list is out for everyone to view, so i am confident that people from respective languages (telugu, mayalam and kannada) will point out the mistakes, if there are indeed any.
Moreover, I know i can trust you.

And just think about this...Instead of not having any reference sources for raga details for IR songs in other languages, we have atleast made a start by providing a listing that has telugu/kannada and malayalam songs also. In this current stage, i dont mind getting a few critical remarks abt the list being erroneous (which again is unlikely)
purv, i think you should carry yourself with a bit more conviction. You seem to doubt ur own abilities...:-)

man, sorry for successive posting (must be tiring), but i forgot to tell..
In rajadhi raja un thandhirangal....M1 appears in the third line of charanam. So the charanam aint so water tight. But its a trace use. Moreover, the pallavi uses D2.

Vel, also the Raga Lakshana for Saavithri raagam should be ||s g3 m1 p n2 S|| in both the aarohanam and avarohanam. Just think of it as the Avarohanam of Thilang raga going both up and down. :-)
