This is better discussed in the forum hub. But I think India and Indian software professionals should start thinking about product development more. Doing consultancy/service is not going to be a reliable/steady industry. It is very much going to be affected by the vagaries of the economy. If a Israeli company can do ICQ and sell it for $300 million or more. And Ireland can do CORBA software, why not India do some packaged software product as well ?

This is a question I have not gotten the answer so for. Are we ready to pump in millions of dollars and not seeing the fruits of the product for couple of years? TCS/Wipro/InfoSys are all developing into a sort of body shopping companies or companies undertake maintenance work. Money is not the issue here but we look for the easy money. Never intend to do new product based development in India.
