Do you think that it'd be better if our MDs were more open and frank and even went to the level of giving tribute to the source from which they have derived their tunes or songs ? This way we may not lose respect when we discover the song has been derived or lifted. What do you think prevents them from doing this ?

Thats what prevent them, I think! 'cos credit is just one small issue. If the composer himself gives the original composer some credit then he has solid proof for his inspiration and could go to court for share of revenue from that piece!
Sandeep Chowta mentioned in an interview that he is worried about giving credit to an European composer for having inspired him to compose the song 'raundhe' in Pyar Tune Kya Kiya. He has reasons to worry, 'cos now the original composer has proof for the inspiration!
I dont think any composer would ever do this in India. But if its done, I think our musical knowledge and outlook will grow manifold!! :-)
